小鲜肉 xiǎoxiānròu

Since: 2014

Origin: China

Meaning: Young man (between 18-30 years old) who’s handsome and who has a strong, muscular and attractive body.

Have you ever watched early EXO (Korean K-Pop band) videos? All these Korean/Chinese singers looked so young, pure and handsome, so 小鲜肉 (xiǎoxiānròu)! So, that’s what this word means: handsome, young, child-face men who just turned 18 years old.

The word is composed by two adjectives, and one noun, which stay for:

小 xiǎo: young age (between 18-30 years old)

鲜 xiān: no bad experiences neither embarassing gossip news, due to their young age

肉 ròu: muscular, strong and healthy body

Need to know: the feminine version is 小花 (xiǎohuā), and its opposite is 老腊肉 (lǎoxīròu)

Related words: 盐系男, 猫系男, 酱油男子, 高富帅, 老腊肉, 小萝莉

In Use: “成为小鲜肉。” ( To become an attractive and unexperienced young man.)

Interesting things: In 2014 the first list of the most handsome Chinese 小鲜肉 was released with the first 10 young men who are, “Chinawide”, considered handsome, attractive and are aged between 18 and 30 years old.
